The Hallertau or Holledau is an area in Bavaria, Germany.With an area of 178 km², it is listed as the largest continuous hop-planting area in the world. According to the International Hop Growing Convention, Germany produces roughly one third of the world's hops (used as flavoring and stabilizers during beer brewing), over 80% of which are grown in the Hallertau.

This is a German hops variety. Alpha acids content for this hops variety is 3.8-6% Hallertau Mittelfrüh Hops - the Kaiser of German hops. It possesses the classic noble aroma popular in traditional German styles. It has a mild bittering potential (3-5.5% AA), but is clean, crisp, and perfect for pilsners with a white whine aroma. Hallertau is considered a Noble German hop with a mild aroma, slightly fruity and spicy, flowery, and even hay-like. Ideal for aroma and flavor additions in any German beer recipe, and is also suitable for use in other Continental styles, Belgian ales, and lagers.
